Roaring winds turned into roaring crowds. The cracking of trees turned into the cracking of bats. Rain turned into confetti. After the recent tragedy in Houston, Texans finally have a reason to celebrate. The Houston Astros won the World Series for the first time in franchise history. The Astros’ first season was in 1962. Fifty-five years later they can finally claim their first championship title.

The World Series went to a full seven games this year. In the end, Houston took the series with a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. The series went back and forth with the Dodgers winning the first game and the Astros coming back and taking the second. Both teams set a World Series record with a combined total of twenty-five home runs throughout the series.

George Springer was unanimously named the 2017 World Series MVP. He tied the record for most home runs hit during a World Series with five. He said, “Our team believed in each other all year. I’m so happy to be a part of it to bring a championship back to a city that desperately needed one. It is a surreal feeling.”

The Houston Astros have one more reason to celebrate. In addition to a championship, the team is also headed to a wedding. After Game 7, Carlos Correa, the Astros’ shortstop, got down on one knee and proposed to girlfriend Daniella Rodriguez. What better way to celebrate a World Series title than with a little love?
