The first cat café in Greenville, the Organic Cat Café, opened in downtown on November 20th. The Organic Cat Café serves as a home to about 20-30 residential cats and also serves as a cat hotel. The atmosphere is designed to offer a casual, home-like feeling so the cats feel safe and people can comfortably interact with them.

Upon walking in, you have to pay a ten dollar fee (which includes a drink) and sign a waiver. The greeter will explain the rules, which are: do not pick up the cats, do not disturb sleeping cats, do not pull the tails of the cats or play with them roughly, and do not feed the cats human food. After the greeter hands over the free drink waiver, you are free to play with the cats for one hour and fifteen minutes. However, you can stay as long as you like if there are no waiting customers outside.

Inside the café, cats roam and sleep to their heart’s content. The feeding times for the cats are 11 a.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m. and on their website, you can make reservations to see the cats munch.

It’s a café, so the drink specialties are mostly coffee. The drink menu has a choice between Morning Cat, Woke Cat, or Chat Noir, three original coffee drinks. For people who do not like coffee, there are other options such as tea, juice, and lemonade. Vegan snacks are also available, and more additions to the menu are coming soon.

This café benefits both the cats and the public. The cats are given a permanent home and the citizens of Greenville are given the opportunity to cuddle and play with them. They are open from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., so stop by to have coffee and enjoy the experience.
