The National Premier League recently announced that Greenville Football Club (FC) was added to their expansion league. The club’s mission and vision are to create a next-level fan experience and to merge sports and the community to provide a platform where players can develop. The club will be playing in the South Region’s Southeast Conference and will face off against teams in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana. Marco Carrizales, the president and majority owner of the team says, “The Greenville soccer community has been deserving of a team for some time.” The team’s tryouts were held in March. Their home field will be the Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium at Furman University. Team officials are already suspect a rivalry between Greenville FC and Asheville City Soccer Club. The season will begin May 4th and end on July 7th. After the playoff begins, the season runs all the way to August.

Greenville itself is currently the fourth fastest growing city in the United States and is the largest city in the Upstate region of South Carolina. According to Upstate SC Alliance, Greenville County has a population of over 500,000 and a metro population of almost 900,000. The Upstate SC region holds a population of 1,000,000. Greenville is the cultural and entertainment center of the Upstate and was ranked by US news as the 29th best metropolitan area to live in. The growth of Greenville county brought this soccer league here and will likely continue to draw other sports and businesses to the area in the future.
