As October comes to an end so do all of Wade Hampton’s fall sports: football, volleyball, cross country, competitive cheer, girls tennis, swimming, and girls golf. Some of the seasons went well and everyone had fun and are ready to begin preparing for next year. Here are some highlights of some of the fall sports this year.

Varsity football went 1-9 this season, winning the last home game 56-0 on senior night. Throughout the season, the boys never gave up hope and kept pushing for a win. They eventually won a game against JL Mann on senior night. The JV football season went better; their record was 3-7. JV coach, Coach Rhodes said, “This year was a success from a coaching standpoint because our players learned to be a team and to win and lose together.” The coaches are hopeful for next years season.

Varsity volleyball had an outstanding season going 17-6 in their regular season games. Both the JV and varsity girls had an amazing time making memories that will last for a long time.

Cross country placed fifth and sixth this year in the country championships and some of their runners qualified for state.

The varsity swim team also had a great season. The team performed well at every event and truly swam as a team. Eleven swimmers made it to the state meet, with senior Audra McSharry finishing with a second-place swim in the 500 Freestyle event.

Girls tennis started the year with a new coach, Coach Staggs, and he proved to be great for the team by coaching the girls into winning ten out of their fifteen matches.

Girls golf had a good season. Although the team only won two out of their six matches, they performed well in the tournaments and had one of their team members play in the upper state tournament.

Overall, Wade Hampton fall sports teams were successful, and they set a precedent for the winter sports that are just beginning.
