It is definitely no secret that there is a great amount of stress floating around the school at this time of year. Both final exams will be held until on Monday and Tuesday, January 14th and 15th. On Monday, second and fourth block exams will be held, and then on Tuesday, first and third block exams, unless the class required an EOC. These exams count as 20% of each student’s grade for the whole semester, so naturally, panic levels are bound to rise. In reality, this is no cause for worry.

While final exams are in fact very important, mental health is far more important. Junior Cameron Knox stated, “I hate exams due to the sheer fact that I get lots of stress and anxiety about them, having to stay up all night to study and then being tired all day.” This just goes on to show that, without the right mindset, one cannot expect to reach their full potential. The best things to do while preparing for these exams is to study hard, keep positive thoughts, get good amounts of sleep, and eat healthily. In order to achieve success, students must try their hardest. By following these steps, without allowing unhealthy amounts of stress, any student is sure to thrive next week.

Every General will soon find that, with exams over and the new semester beginning on Wednesday, school-related anxiety will decrease. Teachers and students alike will be able to start the new semester off thinking that it is finally a time for them to rest. When the second semester comes around, the best way to start off is being engaged and focused right off the bat. If an adequate pace is kept throughout the rest of the year, then there is absolutely no question to whether or not success is an attainable goal. The only thing that is capable of keeping someone from their success is themselves. Slacking off and procrastinating is a struggle that every student gives into sometimes, but everyone can indeed overcome this; the key to making it through another semester is to simply believe it is possible and not make excuses.
