In our ever-changing world of technology, sometimes teachers have trouble finding ways to reach students in ways that are relevant. Student lives revolve around social media, and US History teacher Ms. Mangle uses this to her advantage. She created her Instagram account, @TheHouseofMangle to show off her students achievements and inspire them. She posts a weekday morning wake up call, she posts about her student’s achievements, and she posts information about her classroom activities. Though it is an uncommon way to connect with students, her account has gained over 1,000 followers and reaches students all over Wade Hampton.

The name House of Mangle is what her students call her classroom, so was the perfect name for Ms. Mangle’s Instagram. This account is a way to show off classroom experiences to her friends, family, and students. She highlights the fun parts of the class that are often overshadowed by work and testing. Upcoming juniors each year look forward to having Ms. Mangle as a teacher because of her fun attitude and her unique activities. She describes her account as a digital refrigerator door where she showcases all of her student’s accomplishments. She has noticed that many students work harder so that they can have their work shown on her account. Ms. Mangle said, “Students want to be apart of class, and they are really excited to come every day.” History classes are notorious for long lectures and pages of note-taking, but Ms. Mangle keeps things interesting by switching up activities and finding ways to include all of her students.

It is no secret that school can be difficult, but with teachers like Ms. Mangle keeping things interesting and new, it makes getting through every day much easier.
