Downtown Greenville’s very own Papi’s Tacos is now under new ownership. This restaurant was previously a part of the ten Table 301 restaurants along such as The Nosedive and The Lazy Goat. On March 1, Carl Sobocinski sold over this Table 301 restaurant along the Reedy River. Papi’s Tacos’ very own “Papi,” Jorge Barrales, now holds primary ownership to this establishment and plans on continuing its journey to success. He, alongside his son, Jorge “Elias” Barrales Jr., has announced that another Papi’s Tacos location is now underway as well, although the downtown location will remain the original location.

Papi started as a dishwasher at a Table 301 establishment more than twenty years ago. He immigrated to the United States in the 1990s, first arriving in California and then moving to South Carolina about three years later. As one of the few original Table 301 employees, Jorge naturally moved up in the business and opened up Papi’s Tacos under the restaurant group’s umbrella with the intention of later acquiring sole ownership. Junior Cameron Knox says, “The food there is just so amazing and affordable. I’m glad that they are advancing the business and hopefully they will continue to thrive.” With that said, it seems that Jorge Barrales has rightfully earned what is now his and he deserves lots of respect.
